Advocate for Entrepreneurs Says Court Decision on Overtime Rule Provides Needed Relief… “Small Businesses are Thankful”

Washington, D.C. – Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following response to a judge’s decision to grant an emergency injunction against the Department of Labor’s overtime regulation:

“The overtime rule is totally disconnected from reality. It undermines opportunity and paycheck certainty for the hard-working employees of small business owners. Employees were being moved to part-time status from a position of having a stable paycheck, benefits, and flexibility along with responsibility that leads to career growth. The one-size-fits-all doubling of the salary threshold demonstrated ignorance regarding the vast differences in the cost-of-living across America. The restrictive nature of the final rule ignores the diverse business models across industries in terms of how employees are compensated.  The Department of Labor got this final rule terribly wrong, and the harsh consequences were about to fall directly on small businesses and their dedicated employees.  Small businesses told the DOL exactly how it would affect them and the burdens it would impose. They choose to ignore their plight and concerns. We are glad the court will give this rule the fair hearing it never received from DOL regulators.”
