Washington, D.C. – The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) praised Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai’s announcement on May 5, 2017 that the agency will set up an Office of Economics and Data.
SBE Council chief economist Raymond J. Keating stated:
“FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is providing real leadership in how regulation should be thought about and executed within government. Too often, regulation is driven by baseless political views and special-interest influence, while actual economics and data are treated as mere afterthoughts, if seriously considered at all. An Office of Economics and Data playing an early role in the FCC’s decision making on rules, reviews and auctions would represent a dramatic and positive shift in developing policy. Chairman Pai said that he is ‘very committed to heightening the importance of economic analysis at the FCC.’ That’s good news for consumers, and for the small businesses who use and provide telecommunications services, as sound economic analysis should limit wasteful and misguided policymaking that undermines private innovation, entrepreneurship and investment.”
