Entrepreneurs Look for Optimism and a Strong Policy Agenda from President Trump’s SOTU Speech

Washington, D.C. – Optimism in the small business community is very high, and a leading advocate for entrepreneurs said that tonight’s State of the Union speech offers President Donald J. Trump the opportunity to reflect on the policies that are driving economic growth and American confidence, while laying out a strong case for “next steps” to leverage the capital, confidence and can-do spirit that have been unleashed by those policies. Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council President & CEO Karen Kerrigan said that 2018 is shaping up to be an excellent year for stronger entrepreneurship and small business growth, but more policy changes are needed to leverage that growth and extend economic opportunity for all Americans.

“Entrepreneurs credit President Trump’s leadership in getting things done during his first year. Small business owners are very optimistic about their future and the economy. High confidence, more capital and a renewed can-do spirit signal great things for entrepreneurs in 2018,” said Kerrigan.

“Stronger investment and productive economic activity is occurring in the U.S. economy. President Trump needs to keep the accelerator on policy changes that remove barriers, lower costs, unleash capital and extend opportunity for all Americans. I am confident we will hear that tonight,” added Kerrigan.

Over the past two weeks, SBE Council has unveiled its agenda for 2018, which aligns with many elements of the policy agenda being pushed by the Administration.  Other parts of the agenda include legislation being advanced in the House and Senate, as well as initiatives occurring in the federal regulatory agencies.
