Washington, D.C. – The following statement can be attributed to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan with regard to today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision on credit card transaction fees:

“We’ve always been leery of government intervention in the ‘swipe fee’ debate given technological innovation and the ease and convenience that credit and debit cards bring to small businesses over checks and cash. The good news for both consumers and small businesses is that the payments system has evolved and there are more options for reducing transaction costs. The growth of alternatives has been a very positive development for small businesses and their customers, and hopefully this decision by the Supreme Court will accelerate innovation and more payment choices in the marketplace.”
