The Democrats Small Biz Agenda and Health Care

Democrats are highlighting their policies to help small businesses.  How will they explain their support for the new health care law, which places costly new burdens on all small businesses and raises taxes on many others?

PROTECT HSAs! Preserve Health Care Choices

The new health care law threatens Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).  Small business owners, entrepreneurs and the self-employed must organize and speak out to protect this affordable and flexible health coverage option. The new law starts to chip away at the value and benefits associated with HSAs.  Starting in 2011, over-the-counter purchases and other preventative care are excluded from the list of items that consumers can purchase using HSA dollars.  More broadly, SBE Council is very concerned that the use and adoption of HSAs may be deterred when regulations are developed to implement the new health care law. Help us to PROTECT HSAs!

Lessons in Entrepreneurship

Unconventional (or Uncommon) Wisdom

Lessons from A Deliberate Pause

A Special 4-part series

By Larry Robertson

Entrepreneurship is a topic near and dear to SBE Council's members and partners. It is also a vital force critical not just to America's recovery, but to its ongoing ability to reinvent itself and remain a global leader.  SBE Council is proud to feature a 4-part, consecutive series of short lessons about entrepreneurship by subject matter expert and author Larry Robertson. In original articles drawn from his recently released book A Deliberate Pause: Entrepreneurship and its Moment in Human Progress and from the author's related blog, Mr. Robertson offers a fresh look at a vital topic. Mr. Robertson's stories challenge typical notions about entrepreneurship while offering vital and actionable insights to readers.

The second article in this special series - "A Horse is a Horse, of Course, Unless" - Mr. Robertson finds an example from history to teach us lessons about looking at things differently to achieve goals, and ultimately success.

In the first article of the series -- "Sticking Your Neck Out" - the author addresses how entrepreneurs are agents of change, and the critical role they play in all of society's advancements.
