Washington, D.C. – Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan was named to the list of “Top Power Women in U.S. Crowdfunding” by CEO World magazine.
The magazine noted that Kerrigan was “tremendously influential” in helping to pass the legislation making equity and debt-based crowdfunding legal. In addition, “Her influential organization is focused on policies, resources, and educational initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship and small-business growth,” which will help to increase awareness of crowdfunding as a financing option for entrepreneurs, and build quality deal flow for the nascent industry.
“These women are changing the world – and they know it,” wrote CEO World.
SBE Council’s Kerrigan was named along such luminaries as Jessica Jackley, CEO of ProFounder (and co-founder of Kiva); Danae Ringelmann, co-founder of Indiegogo; Jennifer Kassan, CEO of Cutting Edge Capital; and Sara Hanks, CEO and founder of Crowd Check, among others.
Currently, SBE Council is helping to shape the final rules governing equity and debt-based crowdfunding. The Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) released proposed rules on October 23, and they are taking public comment through early 2014.
SBE Council is also co-hosting CROWFUNDING WORLD SUMMIT 2013, a virtual event with more than 60 experts who will cover every aspect of crowdfunding. This is a COMPLIMENTARY event that begins on December 3.
