The Honorable John Thune

United States Senate

Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator Thune:

On behalf the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) and our more than 100,000 members, I am writing to thank you for your leadership on S. 860, the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015. SBE Council strongly supports this important legislation, as it promotes fairness, capital formation, economic growth and the continuity and survival of American family businesses.

No rationale exists for maintaining the death tax. It destroys family businesses and siphons capital away from productive business building activities. The miniscule amount of federal revenue generated by the death tax (less that .1 percent) is more proof that this tax is not based on intelligent policy, given the great damage it imposes on our economy and in communities hurt by the forced closure or upheaval of family businesses and farms.

At a time when our businesses need confidence, capital and sustained economic growth, repealing the death tax is a fair and smart move with both immediate and long-term benefits for our economy.

Please let SBE Council know how we can further aid your efforts to ensure the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015 is signed into law. Thank you for your support of America’s entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Sincerely,

Karen Kerrigan, President & CEO
