UPDATED PROFILES of the Candidates!

By Karen Kerrigan-

Tonight is the first Presidential candidate debate between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump.  The candidates will face off in Hempstead, New York at Hofstra University.  The general topics for the debate include “America’s Direction,” “Achieving Prosperity,” and “Securing America.”

Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses Key to America’s Economic Future and Prosperity

The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) strongly contends that issues impacting entrepreneurship and small business should be front and center for this debate. After all, Americans are most concerned about their economic future. Entrepreneurs are critical to getting the economy back on a strong growth track, and successfully starting and growing a business is an important path that helps individuals achieve financial security and prosperity.

SBE Council has updated our profiles (from the primaries) on where the candidates stand on key small business issues.  We have outlined known (or new) positions on taxes and tax reform, health care reform and Obamacare, regulation and regulatory reform, trade, immigration, and energy.  Also included: Resource links to SBE Council’s views, research, and positions on key issues.

What questions should the moderator ask the candidates?

In a survey last week, SBE Council asked our members what questions the moderator should ask the candidates. Here are some of those questions:

• Small businesses are closing at record rates.  How would you spur entrepreneurial growth…without government handouts?

• What is your specific plan to fuel economic growth, specifically as it relates to small businesses?

• What are your short and long terms plans to stimulate small business growth?

• As President, how do you plan to eliminate regulatory barriers so that more small businesses can be created, and existing ones can expand?

• Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman touted the benefits of free trade. Why are you against it?

• Will your agenda lower taxes and regulations on my business, or will your agenda increase them?

• My health insurance rates have gone up every year since Obamacare. What are you going to do to fix this mess?

• What, specifically, are you going to do to lower the burdens on small business owners?

• What SPECIFIC proposals do you have that will increase the number of startups in America?

• How do you intend to make sure that entrepreneurs and small business owners have a REAL voice in your Administration?

• Does your tax proposal reduce the tax burden on small businesses? Specifics please!

• What is the highest income tax rate small business owners will pay in your plan?

Live Tweeting: SBE Council president & CEO Karen Kerrigan will be tweeting from @SBECouncil and @KarenKerrigan during the debate.  Let Karen know what you think about the debate and candidate responses to questions on the issues that matter to America’s small business owners and entrepreneurs!
