“Rural Broadband Deployment and Technological Enhancements Will Make a Big Difference for U.S. Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses All Across America”

Washington, D.C.  – Today’s actions by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are a very positive signal for entrepreneurs and small business owners, according to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan. She said the latest set of proposals voted on and passed by the FCC are significant actions that will boost investment, technological innovation, and opportunities for startups and small businesses to succeed in the global marketplace.

Kerrigan’s statement:

“Today, under FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s leadership, the commission advanced a series of important actions that aim to streamline regulatory barriers and roadblocks preventing or disincentiving investment in broadband deployment and network enhancements in the U.S.  The series of steps taken by the FCC provide flexibility, modernize various rules or frameworks, and explore how to expand broadband to rural areas and accelerate deployment of next-generation technologies for wireless and wireline broadband – these are big wins for entrepreneurs.  Small businesses as consumers, innovators, and competitors in the marketplace are the beneficiaries of smart regulations that encourage investment in critical infrastructure. In order to reboot entrepreneurship in America, and get our small businesses growing rapidly, they need a first-class ecosystem that supports growth, and allows them to compete in the global marketplace. The FCC’s bold actions will provide a significant boost to the Internet ecosystem, which will vastly improve the environment for starting and building a business in America.”
