H.R. 1 is a strong package that will boost the competitiveness and sustainability of small businesses, and restore the American dream of starting a business.

Washington, D.C. – Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement in response to the passage of H.R. 1, the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,” by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“The U.S. House took an important and historic step towards meaningful tax reform and relief that will fuel economic growth, small business confidence and unleash the capital entrepreneurs need to start and grow enterprises.  The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a strong package that will help boost the competitiveness and sustainability of small businesses, and restore the American dream of starting a business.

“The strong pro-growth attributes of H.R. 1 will bolster investment, which is critical to U.S. competitiveness and wage growth. A strong economy and sustained growth will improve the conditions necessary for people to take risks – both for launching new businesses and investing in these startups. This is the type of dynamism that has been missing from our economy, which must be restored to strengthen opportunity and financial security for all Americans.

“SBE Council and our members look forward to working with our small business friends in the Senate and Chairman Hatch to quickly move a tax package to the Senate floor for a vote, and then on to the next critical phases that take us closer to President Trump signing a tax reform bill this year.”

Read SBE Council’s KEY VOTE letter in support of H.R. 1 here.  As noted in the letter, November is National Entrepreneurship Month and passage of H.R. 1 is meaningful action to strengthen opportunity and support the entrepreneurial pursuits of Americans:  “There is no better opportunity for the U.S. House to honor small businesses and entrepreneurs, and America’s heritage of supporting our risk-takers and innovators, than to pass tax relief and reform.”
