FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEWashington, D.C. – Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement in response to President Donald J. Trump’s State of the Union address:

“President Trump delivered a powerful address about the state of our nation and how pro-growth policies have lifted the economy and small business optimism. Building on his policy successes by advancing the next layer of small business priorities will fuel the dynamism and energy that our economy needs to extend opportunity and the promise of the American dream to everyone.

“That agenda includes additional work to lower regulatory barriers, improve capital access, encourage investment, lower health care costs on small businesses and create more opportunities for entrepreneurs and business owners to expand their firms.

“Greater bipartisanship in Washington is needed to tackle the most significant challenges our country faces, including several mentioned in President Trump’s address.  Tackling the opioid crisis, resolving immigration challenges, rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure and revitalizing the education system will require authentic participation from both sides of the aisle.  Like President Trump, we hope both parties will come to the table and address these critical issues.

“Several issues that small business owners want to hear more about include efforts to lower health costs, and improve access to growth capital and global markets. These are key areas that will boost entrepreneurship and small business growth. We look forward to working with the Administration and his team on these specific issues, as well as all of our priorities for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurs credit President Trump’s leadership for getting things done during his first year. Small business owners are very optimistic about their future and the economy. High confidence, more capital and a renewed can-do spirit signal great things for entrepreneurs in 2018.”
