“A Key Piece to the 5G Puzzle”

Washington, D.C. –  Today, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) voted on an Order and Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to help advance the rollout of 5G technology by making mid-band spectrum in the 3.7-4.2 GHz band available for expanded flexible use.  As noted by Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan, this next-generation technology is vital to the growth of entrepreneurship and small business success, and will greatly add to the innovative capacity and competitiveness of the U.S. economy.

“Today’s Notice of Proposed Rule Making to free up 3.7-4.2 GHz of mid-band spectrum is a critical step forward to usher in a next-generation, 5G world outfitting small businesses with the tools they need to innovate, grow and effectively compete. We applaud the FCC for continuing to champion policy frameworks that support and open up opportunities for U.S. entrepreneurs and the communities that count on their growth and success.”

Following this affirmative vote, the FCC will begin to collect data and information they need to make informative decisions and to hear from the public on various aspects of the future of incumbent use in the band, and the proposal to expand terrestrial use of the band.  SBE Council plans to participate in the upcoming comment period.
