“The MMA is important legislation that protects the intellectual property and rewards the heart and soul of the music industry.”

Washington, D.C. –  Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan lauded today’s signing of the Orrin G. Hatch-Bob Goodlatte Music Modernization Act (MMA) by President Donald Trump. The MMA is a package of bills that modernizes copyright law to ensure that artists, songwriters, producers and engineers are fairly compensated for their creative works by bringing music licensing into the 21st Century.  SBE Council has been a longtime advocate for modernization, and strongly supported the MMA.

“Technology has vastly evolved and so has the way that people listen to and share music. It is gratifying that Congress and the industry came together to update our laws to ensure that artists and songwriters are properly and fairly compensated for their hard work. This is an industry that is largely made up of entrepreneurs and small businesses, and in order for it to prosper and endure, creators need to be rewarded for their works. The MMA is important legislation that protects the intellectual property and rewards the heart and soul of the music industry,” said Kerrigan.
