Dear Senators Barrasso, Gardner and Sinema:

On behalf of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council), I am writing to thank you for introducing “The Jobs and Premium Protection Act” (S. 80). This important bill will repeal the health insurance tax (HIT) and provide needed cost relief for our nation’s entrepreneurs and small businesses. SBE Council strongly supports S. 80, as the high costs of health coverage is a top challenge for our members.

As you know, Congress passed a one-year moratorium on the HIT for 2019. However, this relief will be short-lived with its return in 2020. Repealing this unfair tax will create certainty for small businesses. Improved affordability will allow more small firms to offer coverage and effectively compete for workers in the tight labor market.

According to a post-election survey conducted by the Small Business Roundtable, the cost of health care is the #1 issue small business owners want the new Congress to address. SBE Council and our members are grateful that you are listening to entrepreneurs and are quickly responding to their top concern in a bipartisan manner. Please let me know how SBE Council can help you advance S. 80 through the Senate, and into law.  Again, thank you for your leadership and support of America’s small businesses.

Sincerely,

Karen Kerrigan, President & CEO
