Washington, D.C. – Today, President Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Eugene Scalia as the next Secretary of the U.S. Labor Department. The following statement can be attributed to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan:

“Entrepreneurs and business owners want a fair, responsive and qualified individual to lead the U.S. Labor Department. Eugene Scalia is highly qualified, as he is among the best-known labor and employment lawyers in the country. He would lead the Labor Department with an experienced hand, having served as Solicitor during the George W. Bush administration.

“During his service as Solicitor, Mr. Scalia fairly applied workplace safety laws, minimum wage and overtime requirements, and other statutes administered by the Labor Department. At the same time, he listened to the small business community regarding outdated or potentially excessive rules that make it more difficult for small firms to compete, or for new businesses to launch.

“Given the many complex issues the U.S. Labor Department regularly addresses and the current challenges facing America’s workforce, we believe that Mr. Scalia’s experience and engaging leadership are the right fit for this dynamic period. SBE Council strongly endorses the nomination of Eugene Scalia to be the next Secretary of Labor, and we urge every member of the U.S. Senate to support his confirmation.”
