Consumer confidence, the job market and small business confidence continue to trend positively.

The latest consumer confidence data released by the University of Michigan on November 22, suggest that the early predictions of a strong holiday shopping season will materialize. Optimism remains high, along with households’ view of their personal finances.

As a side note, Morning Consult’s Economic Intelligence weekly report on Consumer Confidence also reported gains – “The Index of Consumer Sentiment (ICS) climbed higher this week to 110.8, marking the fourth consecutive weekly gain in consumer confidence.” Again, this reflects the fact that consumers have higher positive views of their current financial condition.

That’s good news for the upcoming 5-day holiday shopping blitz, including Small Business Saturday on November 30.

This is the 10th annual Small Business Saturday, and SBE Council has been a partner in this important day from the very beginning. Shopping local and supporting small businesses seems to grow stronger, and Small Business Saturday shows no sign of fading.

Over the past several months, we’ve shared tips, trends and resources to help your small business leverage Small Business Saturday (here’s my latest Tips & Trends HOLIDAY EDITION) and it’s never too late to do a little more on the marketing and advertising side to drive customers to your store and website. Of course, in addition to ringing up sales, Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to build relationships for the long term. As you well know the customer experience is critical, and is one of the key ways that small businesses can compete with the big guys.

Here’s wishing you a successful Small Business Saturday! SBE Council will continue to urge consumers to not only support small businesses on November 30, but every day throughout the year!
