Christmas is upon us! And a big part of the celebration features gift-giving, holiday arrangements, dinner outings and family meals at home. America’s small businesses play a major role in almost every facet of the holiday.

Small businesses make-up the lion’s share of firms in the industries central to our Christmas celebrations.

● The retail sector is central to finding that just-right gift for loved ones and friends. It turns out that 90.9 percent of employer firms in the retail trade sector have fewer than 20 employees.

● Gifts under the Christmas tree bring smiles to children and adults alike. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, 32.8 million real Christmas trees were purchased in 2018. The 15,000 family farms that sell those trees are small businesses. In the agriculture sector, where trees are grown and food made for holiday meals, 93.4 percent of employer firms have than 20 employees.

● Many of us will dine out at some point over the Christmas holidays. In the restaurants and other eating places sector, 75 percent have fewer than 20 employees.

● Holiday arrangements will be presented as gifts, and among florists, 97.2 percent have fewer than 20 workers.

● Naturally, there will be toys under Christmas trees for good little boys and girls. And among toy, doll and game manufacturers, 87.6 percent have fewer than 20 employees.

● And many of those delicious Christmas meals find their beginnings in the aisles of grocery stores across the nations. Among grocery stores, 87.2 percent of employer firms have fewer than 20 employees.

Merry Christmas to all – including to the entrepreneurs, small businesses and their employees who make our holiday celebrations so much more enjoyable!
