Washington, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump delivered a rousing State of the Union speech on Thursday evening, and Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement in response:

“President Trump delivered a powerful State of the Union speech that symbolized the energy and spirit of America and the enthusiasm he brings to the job. Entrepreneurs, small business owners and their employees are proud to be a part of the economic accomplishments the President outlined in his speech, which have been made possible through his pro-growth policies that keep the wind at their backs and a focus on their important work. As President Trump noted, there is more to be done to fully unleash the power of American ingenuity and our beautiful free enterprise system. And on that note, small businesses everywhere cheered loudly when the President remarked that ‘socialism destroys nations.’ Indeed, socialistic policies destroy entrepreneurship, opportunity and economic vibrancy. President Trump delivered numerous important initiatives that can be pursued on a bipartisan basis, and we hope Democrats will engage with the White House in these areas.

“As President Trump concluded in his remarks, ‘the best is yet to come.’ America’s entrepreneurs agree, and SBE Council looks forward to working with the President and his team on the many important initiatives he outlined – from infrastructure to health care, workforce development to opening new global markets, regulatory improvements and broadband for all. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are very optimistic about 2020, and are pleased to hear President Trump will continue to aggressively pursue policies and initiatives that serve to supercharge their confidence and growth.”

Karen Kerrigan, SBE Council president & CEO
