Washington, D.C. – In response to the riots in cities across America that have harmed many individuals, damaged small businesses and scarred the vibrant areas where many people live and work, Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement:

“The small businesses that dot and serve our beautiful cities bring light, hope and positive energy amid division. Yet many of these businesses are now being destroyed, perhaps some permanently, due to riots. Small business owners are stoic, resilient and courageous, but there is just so much damage they can absorb following the COVID-19 downturn.

“Every community needs these small businesses for the COVID-19 recovery period and they will need these small businesses to fully heal from this troublesome period. We urge city and local officials to speak up and lead regarding the importance of protecting these small businesses. And we continue to ask residents and those with significant means in local communities to do what they can to support their small businesses, many of which are hanging by a thread during this perilous time.”
