Washington, D.C. – The United-States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) goes into effect today, and the nation’s leading advocacy organization for entrepreneurs cheered this important moment, as provisions in the agreement lower barriers and provide growth opportunities for small businesses across many sectors of the United States economy. Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan said growth and revenue-generating opportunities are particularly important now given COVID-19’s impact on the economy.

“USMCA significantly benefit entrepreneurs and small businesses across many industries. These entrepreneurs and business owners have turned to innovative approaches and technology platforms to generate revenue and survive, and they are looking to new markets to grow and diversify. The beneficial provisions in USMCA will help small business owners pursue more growth opportunities,” said Kerrigan

As noted by Kerrigan, the digital, intellectual property, good regulatory practices, agricultural and unique small business chapters will facilitate and encourage global expansion for America’s small firms. Provisions dedicated to cutting costs and red tape at the border are especially vital for small businesses in terms of their ability to compete profitably and pursue opportunities in these markets. In addition, small business suppliers will benefit from new investment and growth opportunities that will emerge from USMCA.

“SBE Council applauds President Trump for his leadership in bringing USMCA to the finish line. It is more important than ever that entrepreneurs pursue new markets to boost revenue. USMCA is an important tool for growth, and we look forward to working with the Administration on additional trade agreements that will create even more opportunities for America’s small businesses,” added Kerrigan.
