Washington, D.C. – Today, the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) announced support for the “Commission on the American Workforce Act” introduced by U.S. Representatives Dave Joyce (R-OH) and Shontel Brown (D-OH). SBE Council president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement on the bipartisan legislation:
“America’s workforce shortage and skills gap have the potential to significantly weigh down U.S. economic growth and competitiveness well into the next decade. We need solutions and policies that directly and creatively address the root causes and barriers. This is a vital matter for small and local businesses, as they cannot survive or scale without the human capital they need to effectively operate, innovate or compete. SBE Council applauds the bipartisan leadership of Congressman Dave Joyce and Congresswoman Shontel Brown as demonstrated by their introduction of the ‘Commission on the American Workforce Act.’ America’s workforce challenges are being driven by a host of complex issues, trends and events; and solutions require bipartisan collaboration, thought leadership and action. The thoughtful design and timeliness of this commission is a needed initiative that will bring all stakeholders to the table in order to develop and advance solutions.”
