The Strength of Small Business America Depends on Affordable Energy

H.R. 1 Fuels Economic Stability and Security for Main Street

Dear Member of the U.S. House:

On behalf of the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council), I am writing to express our organization’s strong support of H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. In the current hyper-inflationary and unstable economic period, and given the fact that every small business is being harmed by high energy costs, every member of the U.S. House must vote for H.R. 1’s passage. Small business needs policies that will lead to a more secure America and a more stable economic future, and H.R. 1 is a key policy piece toward that end.

The U.S. is blessed with vast natural resources along with extraordinary human capital that has developed the best technologies for supplying energy through clean and efficient methods. Small and innovative businesses drive – and dominate – the U.S. energy sector (see attachment). These are the businesses that power local economies and jobs. These small, entrepreneurial firms create the innovative technologies that are helping our nation explore and produce energy more efficiently and cleanly. H.R. 1 will support local businesses and bolster their innovative prowess.

The U.S. must become more self-reliant when it comes to meeting the energy needs of our citizens and businesses. U.S. leadership is also needed in helping our allies meet their energy needs. The alternative to strong U.S. energy leadership – that is, the current policy path that is carelessly restricting U.S. energy development – is helping to fuel repressive and dangerous regimes. Fueling them with capital and power to inflict human suffering. Again, abundant U.S. energy production is even more critical given the dangerous set of geopolitical developments that are stirring and organizing to make the world more unstable and unsafe.

SBE Council strongly supports H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, as it effectively addresses the reforms and actions that are needed to ensure our nation has a reliable and an affordable supply of energy. These measures will: streamline rules to promote modern energy infrastructure and exports; responsibly and efficiently increase energy production; serve to increase the production and processing of critical minerals; institute overdue permitting reform; and repeal punitive and costly taxes.

H.R. 1 will ensure a more secure America and a better economic future for Main Street. The passage of H.R. 1 is vital to all Americans and to U.S. interests. Thank you, in advance, for your support of entrepreneurs, small businesses and their employees.

Sincerely,

Karen Kerrigan, President & CEO
