Washington, D.C. – Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) president & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued this statement following the meeting between President Biden and Congressional leaders on the debt ceiling:
“SBE Council is encouraged that President Biden, Speaker McCarthy, and congressional leaders are holding discussions on the debt ceiling. The clock is rapidly ticking and the threat of default must be averted. That means our elected leadership must continue to engage and forge a solution, and soon. The last thing small business owners and our economy need at this moment is grave uncertainty. As these negotiations continue, the goal of averting a calamitous government default must remain the central priority for both sides. A default would send shockwaves throughout the economy and have a devastating effect on small businesses, their workforce and local communities. We urge lawmakers to stay at the table and reach a speedy and smart resolution to ensure that an economically destructive outcome is averted.”
