The following statement of support for the “Taxpayer Advocate Participation Act,” H.R. 9498, can be attributed to Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan:
“SBE Council strongly supports H.R. 9498, the Taxpayer Advocate Participation Act. This common-sense legislation strengthens taxpayer protections by authorizing the National Taxpayer Advocate to submit amicus briefs in court cases involving issues that may affect fundamental taxpayer rights.
“Small business owners and entrepreneurs deserve a tax system that is fair, transparent, and accountable. The National Taxpayer Advocate has long served as an independent voice for taxpayers by identifying systemic problems within the IRS and recommending practical reforms. Allowing the Advocate to share its expertise with the courts on issues of broad importance will help ensure that judicial decisions fully consider the real-world impact on taxpayers and the protections Congress intended them to have.
“SBE Council applauds Congressman Greg Steube for advancing legislation that reinforces due process, strengthens confidence in our tax administration system, and helps ensure that America’s entrepreneurs and small business taxpayers have a strong, independent advocate when fundamental taxpayer rights are at stake.”
SBE Council is a nonpartisan advocacy, research and education organization dedicated to protecting small business and promoting entrepreneurship.
